Most often.. NO. I came across this stamp via *mumma-duck's journal: [link]
To me, this stamp asks the cliche question 'what is art? can anything be classified as art?'. Reading through the comments from other users, I also came across the cliche argument that 'Any picture is a form of artwork'.
My response to this argument is as follows..
'The fact is most web cam shots are not uploaded or even taken with an intention of being a piece of art. Sure, you can say 'it's still art in it's own way', but then so is everything! You might as well go outside and marvel at every blade of grass for it's artistic values, and then there will be no need to use an artistic community for your artwork browsing needs. In my opinion, it's only art if it's PRESENTED as art, and I assure you there are very few 'cam whores' who intend to photograph valuable artwork rather than a hot picture of themselves to show off.'
I believe the stamp is correct in it's reference to myspace, there is a place for art and there is a place for.. everything else - this is why there are multiple online communities!
People need to understand that the Deviantart community is an art community, and is very serious about ART. We are unlike any other online community in the way we are exclusive - Before creating an account and uploading content, ask yourself just one question.. Am I an artist?
